Meet me and my little history
When it comes to my career, it feels like I'm a cat with nine lives. Freshly out of university, I went into the hospitality industry where I worked for 10 years from a simple server all the way to opening my own cafe. And then the 10 year itch hits and I'm standing in my little cafe questioning if hospitality is really the industry I want to work in for the rest of my life? I mean did I only just go into this field because of the influence of my family?
Well after some serious soul searching, I was lead back to my childhood memories of all the things I enjoyed doing but gave up as I hit adulthood and here's were I quote Picasso - "Every child is an artist. The problem is to remain an artist once they grow up". In that time of searching I was drawn back to the wonderful world of photography, only thing is we are now in 2007 and apart from my smart phone I haven't really touched a digital camera. So back to school I went, brought myself an entry level dSLR and haven't looked back since (NOT!).
After finishing the course, I was terrified to even dream of pursuing photography as a career. So I did what most normal people would do which was start looking for jobs in the same old industry that I'm familiar with.
I guess the universe was doing me a favour when all the hospitality jobs that I applied for rejected my application when I felt confident that I was more than qualified for the job. This little set back made me widen my job search and with apprehensive fingers I typed in photography. The first advert that came up was for a family studio photographer and again with shaky fingers I hit the applied button...now I can really say the rest is history. As I was offered the job and worked there for a great 4 years building all the hands on experience I needed to finally go out and chase my dream.
